About The Best Man:

Veronica Webber is single again after being in a loveless marriage way past its expiration date. For the first time in a very long time, she feels free and after being burned so badly by love in the past, any thought of romance is the last thing on her mind. In walks a man from her past, Trevor Allen, a tall, dark, and handsome womanizer who is usually all about the bottom line. For Trevor that bottom line has always been made up of the countless notches on his bedpost. But when he sees Veronica after so many years, he can’t help but be drawn to her and know her again… even if that means being friend-zoned from the start. As this unlikely pair spends more and more time together, they quickly realize that there might be something between them that goes past "just friends." But there’s just one tiny detail that makes this situation slightly more complicated… Trevor was Veronica’s ex-husband’s best man at their wedding nine years ago. So when past mistakes and indiscretions come back to haunt them, will their happily ever after end before it even gets started? Or will the best man win this time.

My thoughts:

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I now have another author to add to my must read list and now I have to go back and read Barbie Bohrman's other books. The Best Man was delightfully angsty right from the beginning, and not in that whole "why don't they just go ahead and get it on because they're getting on my nerves now" way, but the "slow burns so GOOD" way. And I love how unique the premise is: Trevor (who is basically an unrepentant, yet likeable, manwhore) is attracted to Veronica immediately upon seeing her, only to find out that she's engaged to his best friend. He ends up being the best man in their wedding even! But years later, we discover that the best friend was a manwhore too, which leads to a divorce, and lookie here - Trevor and Veronica cross paths and pursue a friendship with each other.

The way there friendship develops is so sweet and real, and I really loved all of the supporting characters (with the exception of the dreaded ex (of course) and Veronica's mother). Trevor's brothers are fantastic, Veronica's bestie is the kind of friend we all need by our side, and even though I really hated Veronica's mom, I appreciated what her presence added to the story. Reading how Trevor and Veronica's friendship morphed into something more and seeing how Trevor changed and matured was a true joy and Veronica is such a real and relatable character - I just loved them and I really loved them together. I also really appreciated that it wasn't just a cut and dry HEA - there were definite speed bumps along the way and they were actually realistic based on the characters and their pasts.

I can not recommend this book enough; it gets 5 out of 5 wine glasses from me. I'll be buying a hard copy to add to my shelves and it's going high on my Best of 2017 list. I can't wait to continue with The Allen Brothers series when The Better Man (featuring Trevor's younger brother Max) comes out August 1st.
